This poster is in tribute of the late professor in medicine, Holger Ursin (1934 -2016), and his students that followed his lead. Ursin was a professor at the University of Bergen, Norway.

In the 90-ies when I was a student in Bergen, he was one of my lectureres when he spoke about the recent studies he and his students had conducted abroad in a cross cultural study (research) in medicine. Their scope was on stress, but the findings pulled them in a different direction than expected. Their findings had uncovered and significantly demonstrated that the psyche had the power to override the body's fine tuned mechanisms, by starting a biological process that disolves the biological tissues of the human body. This painful process could surface in different parts of the body, at various times, and at a daily accord. Furthermore, this explained an array of psychobiological illnesses that hereof can be cured by a change in one's attitude towards one's own situation. Consequently, psychobiological illnesses should be treated with a focus on psyche, and not biochemistry, when curing an ailment of such. This also means that many can be healed from severe psychological problems, and that the paradigm of humanistic psychology has an advantage over medicine when it comes to psychological problems. For the misinformed reader, I should emphasize that the paradigm of humanistic psycholgy does not downsize the paradigm of the natural sciences, nor that of biology in particular. As illustrated in this poster that is honoring Ursin, the human Being is composed of two integrated systems that are run by two kinds of entites that each depends on different sorts of (interchained) processes. Understanding this universe of connections, actions and responses requires distinctive and totally separated perspectives, methods and insight.

This is the nerve in Elsie K's offers and services, and a reason for the change of path from psychological studies in the natural siences to the paradigm of scientific humanistic psychology where I situate my work and research in the midst of it, that is, in humanistic psychology and it's phenomenological, psychoanalytical and existential scope, without loosing sight of my studies in medicine and biological psychology.

Kind regards, Astrid
